I remember my very first SDCC: I was overwhelmed, nervous, and just loved all the nerdery of it all. I walked the floors, went to panels, and waited for hours and hours in line to get a chance to see some of the creators who inspired me so much. This year I was invited as a guest to SDCC and it was such an amazing experience!
I’ve always loved the LA Times Festival of Books! The first time I went I was …nine years old. It was so cool, getting to see how many other people just loved books and I was so amazed at how many authors were there! I was pretty much this wide-eyed kid then and this year I got to live out my dream and be there as an author, just as wide-eyed.

My parents both come from large families, and as long as I remember at least once a month we would all get together for a huge party that would last all day. Sometimes it was for a holiday, or someone’s birthday, but more often than not it was just a random Saturday where we’d just gather and celebrate being alive.
In one of the drafts for Seven Tears At High Tide, I thought about doing a series of flashbacks, but it didn’t end up working with the flow of the story. This is a scene from Morgan’s adolescence and shows more of his relationship with the rest of the selkies and his thoughts on how he fits in.
